Running for the Organization for Autism Research
AlliedBarton Marketing Assistant, Kelly Bilger, along with friends and family, ran the Buffalo Creek half-marathon outside of Pittsburgh, PA, to raise autism awareness and funds for the Organization for Autism Research.
OAR was created in December 2001 and is the product of the shared vision and unique life experiences of OAR’s seven founders. Led by these parents and grandparents of children and adults on the autism spectrum, OAR set out to use applied science to answer questions that parents, families, individuals with autism, teachers and caregivers confront daily. No other autism organization has this singular focus or provides funds and resources as readily and quickly to those in need.
Kelly and her team were able to raise more than $3,700 for OAR.

Jump and Run 5K – Partnering with Local Law Enforcement
AlliedBarton’s North Carolina Company Police Officers participated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and Fire Training Academy’s Jump and Run 5K. This team event supports Charlotte’s Finest Legacy Foundation, a non-profit organization that honors those officers who were killed in the line of duty. The foundation raises funds for scholarships for high school seniors wishing to pursue a career in law enforcement.
Our team proudly finished in 9th place overall and was the 2nd police team. Participants included Company Police Chief Robert Qualkenbush and Company Police Officers Eric Hawes, Cody Havens and Phillip Martin.
This event is in support of a great cause is also an opportunity for the Company Police Officers to further build on an already strong relationship with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
AlliedBarton’s North Texas District Works to Strike Out Domestic Violence
AlliedBarton’s North Texas district was recently the naming sponsor of a local charity fundraiser. The Genesis Women’s Shelter held a bowling event to raise money and increase the public’s awareness of the assistance available to the victims of domestic violence. More than 72 corporate teams registered for this all day event which was held at a local bowling alley.
AlliedBarton’s North Texas employees, with the help of their families, friends, and customers, raised more than $10,000 for the Genesis Women’s Shelter, and the entire event raised more than $40,000!
Working together to get involved with and give back to our community in this fashion was also a great team building opportunity. Currently, the North Texas employees support Genesis in a number of ways; raising funds and collecting donations, sponsoring of the Genesis Golf Tournament and Mother’s Day Luncheon, and volunteering as court observers and workers at the shelter.
Victims of domestic violence often have nowhere to turn, as resources and help provided by local and state agencies are often inadequate and scarce. Genesis is a private organization which was founded to fight this plague in our society. AlliedBarton is proud of our partnership with Genesis and to help them Strike Out Domestic Violence.
Supporting Our Heroes through the Utah Veterans and Military Employment Coalition
AlliedBarton District Manager Jeremy Lee and Recruiter Angela Wenger were recently invited to the Utah State Capitol to show AlliedBarton’s support for a new coalition being formed. Various military organizations and local employers came together to form the Utah Veterans and Military Employment Coalition. This coalition was formed to help make job searching easier for our Utah service members and to alleviate duplicate work between employers and agencies.
There are more than 5,000 unemployed veterans and service members in Utah, and with more men and women returning from war, the number keeps growing.
AlliedBarton was the only security company in Utah that was invited and support this coalition. The Utah team, and all of AlliedBarton, is proud to support our military veterans and we were honored to attend this event.

AlliedBarton security officers had an opportunity to shine while conducting security operations at the first Runaway Country Music Festival in Melbourne, FL. The concert was packed with over 16,000 people and AlliedBarton officers on duty to control the crowd both days of the outdoor concert and protect the VIP performers.
Dierks Bentley, country music artist, was performing on stage when a father of a young man in a wheelchair asked if there was a way he could help get his son closer to the stage area so he could see the performance. The young man had an extreme case of cerebral palsy and with the angle of his wheelchair and the massive audience; it was difficult for him to see the show.
Security Officers Jeff Cardwell, Javier Aparcio and Brian Casey were able to help make this young man’s dream come true. The officers moved the barricade and positioned the wheel chaired young man within two feet of the country music performer. The audience had tears in their eyes and applauded the officers for their deed and Dierks Bentley actually knelt down and acknowledged the young man as he performed.
Cleaning Up in Raleigh
Several AlliedBarton security officers in Raleigh, NC, looked into adopting a highway with North Carolina’s Department of Transportation. After presenting the idea at a quarterly training meeting, Site Supervisor Chris Johnson was tasked to work out the details with NCDOT. Soon after that meeting, five security officers – Chris Johnson, Jason Marte, David Champagne, Veronica Farris and Steve Acuff, gathered to pick up trash on 1.6 miles of road in Garner, NC.
While the weather was cool and cloudy, the spirits and enthusiasm were high. The group moved down one side of the road picking up bottles, cans and papers and then the other side, filling three large, orange bags, as well as one large, blue recycle bag. The group received numerous waves and friendly honks from passing motorists and Garner Police Officers. Each officer agreed that this was a fulfilling and pleasant way to serve the community while representing AlliedBarton.
